We have learned this VERY IMPORTANT FACT about shooting actor's demo reels: most "created" demo reels stink, because they LOOK LIKE demo reels! Most of them look like somebody just threw a video camera on a tripod and taped you. Bad. Very Bad. NOT good.
If you want an actor's demo reel you can be proud of, you have to make it appear as if you have done a lot of work, even if you haven't. This approach worked for us, and as a result, you can catch us on television and in numerous independent films.
Here's our approach:
- You choose your locations, costumes, and most importantly, material very carefully. With proper planning, the right lighting, a great place to shoot, and your solid acting, we have the experience to make your scene look like it's really right out of an independent film or television pilot -- later, we'll even add background music and laugh tracks, if desired.
- We shoot everything DIGITALLY--this gives us the power to make your scenes look like FILM OR VIDEO! This way, you can mix up your tape, and make it look as if you've done films and television. It looks great, and it works. We know, we did it ourselves.
- We don't shoot the scene like it's a simple monologue! We use camera movement, dolly moves, special lighting techniques, and high quality cameras to MAKE YOU LOOK GREAT! When people watch your demo, they don't see a demo -- they see a body of work you have proudly put together.
- We shoot several segments, with different lighting styles, different types of directing style, and give some the look of film, while we give others the look of video. This gives the impression that you've done a lot of work.
- We edit without fanfare. We feel that the editing should not take away from your acting, but add to it. We won't overdo it with effects, but we will use music, laugh tracks, and smooth transitions to make your demo move with pace while showcasing YOU.
You're a great actor, and you know it, you just need a chance to show it. We had the same problem. So this is what we did for ourselves, and it worked. We feel this is the clear choice for any actor who needs a reel.
